After several months of training, nine of our staff at the Cyprotex UK site recently embarked on a fundraising bike ride event to raise money for local charity East Cheshire Hospice. The challenging Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route extends from Whitehaven on the West coast of Cumbria to Tynemouth on the East coast, just outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It covers approximately 140 miles and a total ascent of 11000 feet. This was quite a challenge for several of the participants who hadn’t been near a bike for many years! Despite enduring difficult weather conditions on day 1, the team persevered and successfully completed the route over a 3 day period. Through the event the staff raised over £2,500 for East Cheshire Hospice.
East Cheshire Hospice is one of our chosen charities at Cyprotex. Since 1988, it has been providing free specialist palliative care for adults in the local community. Based in Macclesfield, their mission is to make every day count for patients and their loved ones. With less than 20% of annual costs coming from the government, they need to raise more than £6,000 per day. To support the cause, Cyprotex has regular fund raising events including monthly themed cake clubs where staff exhibit their baking skills and sell their creations to the Cyprotex staff at the Macclesfield site, our annual Christmas raffle and numerous other charitable events in which individual staff participate.
Camilla Crockett, corporate fundraiser at East Cheshire Hospice comments on the fund raising event; ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to staff at Cyprotex for taking on such a huge challenge, and for helping to raise vital funds for those most in-need in our community. We are so grateful for the support we receive from the local business community and we are always so impressed with the determination and commitment shown by employees when taking on these tough challenges and raising sponsorship. The £2,565 Cyprotex has raised really will make a difference to the patients here at East Cheshire Hospice.’
