Mr. Steve Harris, Chairman

Mr. Steve Harris, ChairmanMr. Harris is an experienced Non-Executive Director with a range of private and public companies in the life sciences sector. He has a wide experience in fundraising and IPOs and an extensive international pharmaceutical and biotech experience with particular focus on business development and licensing.

 

Dr. Anthony D Baxter, Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Anthony D BaxterDr Baxter has over 27 years’ experience in management and research in pharmaceutical and biotech-based drug discovery, medicinal chemistry services, biomolecule detection instrumentation, and ADMET contract research organisations.

Before assuming leadership of Cyprotex PLC in June 2008, Dr Baxter was CEO 2005–2008 of deltaDOT Ltd, a proteomics/genomics analysis platform company. 
There he led a substantial fundraising effort and the commercialisation of the company’s instrumentation. 

Dr Baxter was the founding CEO 1999-2004 of Argenta Discovery Ltd, which he grew in medicinal chemistry service revenues to over £9 million over four years, and simultaneously grew a pipeline of novel therapeutic programmes.  In 2004 he led the successful merger of Argenta with Etiologics Ltd. 

Prior to founding Argenta, Dr Baxter was Chief Scientific Officer 1994–1999 of Oxford Asymmetry International PLC, a chemistry services company, helping to grow the business from an early stage to its flotation on the London Stock Exchange and then on to its merger with Evotec at a valuation of £316 million.

Dr Baxter commenced his career with Glaxo Group Research (now GSK) 1983–1990 as a Senior, and later Principal Medicinal Chemist.  He then joined Ciba Geigy Central Research (now Novartis) 1990–1994 as Research Manager at its Manchester, UK site.

In addition to his role at Cyprotex, Dr. Baxter has been since 2005 Non-Executive Chairman of Equinox Pharma Ltd and Glythera Ltd.  Equinox Pharma is an Imperial College spin-out company which is engaged in machine-learning of drug discovery.  Glythera is a Bath University spin–out which is commercialising its novel protein glycosylation technology.

Dr. Katya Tsaioun, Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Katya TsaiounDr. Tsaioun (pronounced “ts-eye-OON”) is Chief Scientific Officer of Cyprotex. She founded the ADME Tox contract research organization, Apredica, in 2006, which was acquired by Cyprotex in 2010.  The combined businesses made Cyprotex the world’s largest contract research organization specializing in ADME Tox.

Prior to founding Apredica, Dr. Tsaioun worked as a Group Leader at Surface Logix, Mitotix and NitroMed, where she developed in vitro ADME and in vivo DMPK programs for angiogenesis (oncology), CNS, metabolic disease, and infectious disease programs.

Dr. Tsaioun earned her Ph.D. from Tufts University. Her Ph.D. thesis on effects of signal transduction and apoptosis factors in the rat brain was done under direction of Dr. Joseph in Neuroscience. Her post-doctoral training was at the Harvard University Primate Center, working on in vivo and in vitro drug-dependence models with cannabinoid receptor and dopamine transporter systems.

Dr. Tsaioun’s book, ADMET for Medicinal Chemists” is now available from Wiley & Sons.  In addition to leading the scientific development team at Cyprotex, and being a frequent speaker at many ADME and toxicology conferences, Dr. Tsaioun serves on the Scientific Review Boards of a number of non-profit foundations such as the Drug Safety Trust, Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation and the International Retts Syndrome Society.

Mr. John Dootson, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Dootson has 25 years experience in both professional practice and in industry. Trained with Tenon and Ernst & Young, he has extensive managerial experience in major accounting practices and has worked on a wide range of projects including London Stock Exchange flotations and circulars, corporate governance, company acquisitions and disposals and specialist advice to growing SMEs. He has also worked in a number of roles in Industry at Financial Controller and Director level, including seven years within the senior head office finance team of BTP plc, a former FTSE250 specialty chemical manufacturer with over 50 sites worldwide prior to its sale to Clariant AG for 1.1bn GBP. Mr. Dootson is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and for the last four years he has assisted Cyprotex Discovery in a management consultative role that has included all aspects of finance and reporting.
